What's a Airsickness bag ?

An airsickness bag (also known as a sick sack, barf bag, airsick bag, sick bag, or motion sickness bag) is a small bag commonly provided to passengers on board airplanes and boats to collect and contain vomit in the event of motion sickness. Hovercraft-ferry operators and even train companies have also been known to supply bags. Pregnant women with morning sickness and travelers who know they are prone to motion sickness will sometimes bring their own bags. The plastic-lined airsickness bag was created by inventor Gilmore Schjeldahl for Northwest Orient Airlines in 1949. Previously bags had been made from waxed paper or card. Modern bags are still mainly made from plastic-lined paper, but a significant proportion are now made completely from plastic.

How I come to this strange hobby?

My first barf bag was from Germanwings which I received from my Uncle in 2005 a pretty strange present to be given from someones trip.
It was "purple paper with a funny yellow slogan"
  • "Zur Erinnerung an alle Sammler:
Tüte nur leer ins Album kleben!"

  • "In memory of all collectors:
glue bag just empty into the album!"
thought what should I do with this gift, so without wanting to be disrespectful to my uncle I just placed it into my closet and there it stayed for a couple of years and I totally forgot about it. Untill of course the beginning of 2010...... During the spring of 2010 I came across a group of collectors on Facebook and to my surprise these people were trading barf bags. This then reminded me of my barf bag and at that moment That was my start signal. Since then I have asked friends and colleagues to pick up any barf bags they could get on their flights and I also contacted some collectors for swaps to enlarge my collection. My first successfull swaps were with Rainer Schwartz and Nicola Carmignani. Thanks a lot! My Collection was slowly growing and in August 2010 I decided to launch my first internet website on the World Wide Web. Now you are here to have a look to my barf bargs.

Thanks for visiting
